Varner Named FCA Male Athlete of the Year
Payton Varner was named the Fellowship of Christian Athlete (FCA) Male Athlete of the Year for our region.
One male and one female is selected to receive this honor in the surrounding 46 school districts. In addition to being recognized at FCA Regional Banquet, Varner will receive a $1,000 scholarship.
Varner is a senior at Cassville High School and will attend Crowder College in the fall where he will study education. He aspires to teach history and coach once he has earned his college degree.
“I’ve been involved with FCA since 7th grade,” said Varner. “It has been a huge part of my Christian life as I’ve progressed throughout school. It’s made me step out of my comfort zone, learn to preserve, taught me how to get up early and go to bible study and this club shows the school, that you are daring to be different.”
Cassville High School FCA is led by club sponsor Tina Mills.
Varner is the president of FCA, volunteers at the Herschend Tree Farm, member of the A+ Program, FBLA, FFA, Interact Club- Treasurer, Youth Advisory Board, NHS- Leadership candle/officer, Academic Letter all four years, FFA Chapter Degree, Mr. Merry Christmas King, Elks Lodge student of the quarter, State Farm student of the month, FFA Contest Team, Honor Roll, Rotary Camp for Leadership RYLA, Basketball summer camp ( 2 years ) helped K-6, Coached Little League Baseball, Concession Stand- demolition derby, rodeo, bull buckout, Tractor Pulls, Speaker at Rotary Club, PAT- Volunteer for Fall Festival, NHS Blood Drive and does the morning announcements for CHS student body daily.
Varner is the son of Tonya and Terrell Varner of Cassville.
