Planning for Winter Weather at Cassville R-IV
As the winter season approaches, we want to ensure you are informed and prepared for any weather related school closures or cancellations.
If the National Weather Service is predicting a winter storm, our administration monitors the forecast closely. If a winter weather event occurs, our team will make every effort to make a decision regarding school attendance as soon as possible.
Below are important details to help you better understand how closures will be communicated and how we will use Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI) days.
School Closure Announcements
If the district determines a snow day or an AMI day is needed or we opt for early dismissal, notifications will be sent out via the following methods:
-
ParentSquare – email, text, app and/or phone calls will be sent via ParentSquare, our new district-wide communication tool. If you have not registered your ParentSquare account, we encourage you to do that immediately to ensure you receive important district information, including weather related closures. Learn more about ParentSquare here.
-
District Social Media Channels – School closure information will be posted on our district facebook and instagram pages.
-
Local TV Stations: KY3 & KSPR
Details regarding snow days & AMI days:
While we love a traditional snow day, in an effort to avoid impacting the end of our school calendar, the district will utilize AMI days during inclement weather.
AMI days are an option provided by the state for schools to use during short-term closures such as an inclement weather day. On these days, the district will provide instruction virtually for students to complete at home. In return, the state allows us to count the day in our school calendar instead of having to make it up at the end of the year.
Our goal is for students, teachers and families to have a positive experience during AMI days. If your child is having difficulty completing their assignments, arrangements and accommodations will be made when they return to in-person instruction.
If district notification states it is a snow day, students are not asked to complete coursework. If the notification states it is an AMI day, we ask that students complete their work from home that day.
Eunice Thomas Elementary:
Parents of students in Kinder Academy-second grade will receive a link to their child’s AMI Learning Menus through Parent Square on the AMI day. Your child’s classroom teacher will also be sending an AMI letter and a hard copy of the Learning Menus home with your child for your review.
Intermediate:
Third-fifth grade parents received their child’s AMI coursework during their fall parent teacher conference.
CMS & CHS:
Sixth-twelfth grade students will find their AMI work on Canvas. If your middle school or high school child did not bring their school issued device home and attempts to access Canvas through a new or different device, the log-in page is found here.
Sixth-eighth grade students who do not have access to the internet at home and are unable to complete their AMI work will be given time to finish assignments during homeroom when the student returns to school.
Ninth-twelfth grade students who do not have access to the internet and are unable to complete their AMI assignments will complete their coursework when they return to campus. It will be the responsibility of each student to work with their teacher to ensure required coursework is completed.
Please know that we take the responsibility of making these decisions seriously and strive to consider the various situations of our students. Winter weather can be unpredictable and we appreciate your flexibility as we navigate these challenges.
If you have questions, please feel free to contact your child’s building level office or reach out to their teacher directly.
Wishing you all a safe and happy winter season!
